Title change: The Waters of Life

Finally found dad. Didn't have to take the easy way out to do it, either. I was forced to do some fucked up shit though (like putting on a silly mask and killing all of the residents with a knife as they all run away screaming from me, calling me the "Pint-Sized Slasher"). Oh well, it's just virtual reality anyway.

You know, for awhile, I thought the entire game was going to revolve around finding dad, so it's refreshing to finally meet him.

He's heading back to Rivet City, and I honestly felt like doing other things. I went back to Grayditch to fight off those Fire Ants--predictably, the kid's father ended up being dead. Once I told him, I promised him that I was going to find the source of the Ants and kill them all. But that sounds like a lot of searching, so that quest is on hold.

Don't wanna head to Big Town just yet. I'm sick of Super Mutants.

I'll focus on the Reilly's Rangers quest for now. I made sure to invest in my Medicine skill so that I could help Reilly heal, so I might as well head back to the Underground, where she's at.

WOO, I finished two main quests in one day. That's a first.

What the fuck even was the good karma way? :/

Run the Chinese Military thing? Kill them all? That's, like... the least intuitive thing, ever.

Yeah, the Chinese Military failsafe was the good karma way out.

I guess... I'd be doing them a favor if they all died, because they're (apparently) forever trapped in that prick's virtual hell.

But see, I thought I could go back there at some point, find that bastard, kill him, and set all those people free.

So I can't do that? What the fuck, man. That's lame.

I dunno, mercy kills since...i dunno. Now that I see it this way, killing them yourself or the Chinese thing are the same thing essentially. Its just that one involved pragmatism and the other involves sadism.

You can't kill him in the simulation. God mode does what god mode does.

hey
Pretty sure the failsafe means that they die for good, ending their centuries of suffering from Dr Braun, instead of indulging in Braun's sadistic game and killing them yourself with the failsafes still on

Yeah, I actually tried punching him, and he blew me up. It was kinda funny.

Oh well, I guess. Guess I better start passing out them waters. -_-

see, i didn't know they were in there for centuries

though that kinda makes sense now that i've put it together

if i knew that at the time, i probably would've done that right away--but jesus christ, the game basically has it set up to where you expect to be able to save them at the end, but... nope

i don't like that

I thought that would've been implied from the fact it was a Vault, they all sealed up when the bombs fell >.>

But... It has been forever since I first did that, so fair enough actually

So, yeah. Did some digging, and I learned from this thread that Braun actually does explain the ultimate fate of the people during the quest. I don't remember him saying it--maybe I just didn't choose the right dialogue option--but yeah, that's totally my fault and I have to live with it <_< Oh well. I'll try to weigh my options with a lot more consideration the next time I have to make a moral choice like that.

I mean, that's what I've been trying to do, but I fucked up there. Ah well.

It's not the game's fault, is what I'm trying to say.

Big Trouble in Big Town

Finally decided to get this quest done. The mission ended up being a bit different than I thought--I only had to rescue two captives, because the rest were dead. I think that was my first Super Mutant Overlord (he had no weapons, and he was the spongiest bullet sponge I've had to face so far).

I like Bittercup. She says silly things, and she actually remembered me when I came back. She gives you random stuff she finds in the wasteland, too, which is nice.

Reilly's Rangers

I made a misstep earlier that I forgot to mention: Before you can heal Reilly and have her tell you what's happened to her, you need a Medicine skill of 60--but I only had a Medicine skill of 56 at the time. Fortunately, the last perk I gave myself was the Comprehension perk, which gives you an extra skill point for every book you read. After finding two Medicine books, I was finally able to speak with her.

She wants me to head to a hospital where her rangers are pinned down by more Super Mutants. I've had enough Super Mutants for awhile, so I'll put this quest on hold.

You Gotta Shoot 'Em in the Head

Forgot to mention earlier--when I gave Mister Crowley the first two keys, I didn't have to lie about murdering anybody. He was satisfied with the keys--I don't actually have to kill anybody.

Something tells me I'm gonna want to kill Tenpenny, however.

Those!

I found Bryan's father, dead. Predictably. After telling the boy of his demise, I promised him that I would find the source of the Fire Ants and destroy it.

...Except Grayditch is kinda big, and I don't feel like scouring it right now. On hold.

LET'S GET THIS GAME DONE BY THE END OF THE YEAR

This is my quick-select load-out, by the way:

Assault Rifle (upper-right)
Combat Shotgun (right)
Sniper Rifle (lower-right)
Shishkebab (down)

i also have a missile launcher on hand, in case i ever need it
and a big weapons cache at home

What weapons did you guys like to use?

Assault Rifle, Combat Shotgun and the Hunting Rifle were basically my go to weapons, they were so useful

Especially the Hunting Rifle, it was basically impossible to run out of ammo for that thing, since pretty much every Super Mutant used it

By the late game, you'll have pretty much infinite ammo for the minigun, so that becomes my number one weapon.

What exactly is "Well Rested?" I've never been able to figure out what that does.

Higher accuracy while in V.A.T.S., if I had to guess.

Level 16. Update coming soon, but I have a question.

Is it ever a good idea to get two of the same skill? Like, I have Gun Nut--should I ever get Gun Nut (2)?

If you want to get more of the same bonus, sure
