Since when did the Enclave spawn this early in the game? I don't know of any random encounters with them that can happen before a certain quest is done.

Also I just found out a quest on New Vegas today I never knew about. One of the strip NPCs who mills around gives it to you. I have over 1,000 hours in NV and I didn't know about this quest. The fuck?
What quest?

Small rancher who is buttmad about heck gunderson

He sits outside the monorail station. Only found out about it because of a playthrough I'm watching. Presumed he was a generic npc.
Pheeble Will? That ties into Beyond the Beef, if you haven't done that quest get. BTB is one of the most fun New Vegas quests, IMO.

Yeah. Done BTB loads of times but never knew about pheeble will.

Presumed he was just a generic Strip NPC.

It's only on XBO, PS4, and PC, so that'll probably be a while.

All right, let's go over my new quests real quick.

The Replicated Man

Some bastard wants me to locate a missing android--a super advanced robot capable of thinking for itself. I accepted the mission, but when I find the android, I'm hoping I'll be given the option to let him run away. I can kinda see where this quest is going. I'll find the android, he'll say something like, "I don't want to go back--I have my own aspirations!" and if that's the case, I'll want to leave him be. Then I'll either have to lie to Zimmer, or tell him that his robot doesn't want anything to do with him anymore. Either way, I don't really know if I can bring myself to bring him back to Zimmer.

Scientific Pursuits

Main quest--currently overlapping with GNR, but that's okay. I'll do this one later. I have to find my dad in Project Purity's Control Room. He's not gonna be there, I know it, but the ominousness surrounding this quest is very foreboding.

I was relieved to hear that Project Purity had nothing to do with that I thought. My dad just wants a way to make all the irradiated waters pure again--a noble pursuit.

Stealing Independence

Now here's a neat little fetch quest--I have to locate and retrieve the Declaration of Independence. Cool.

Currently in the process of infiltrating the museum.

I don't know how I feel about the fact that, even though the joint is swarming with Super Mutants, the museum has all these terminals you can still access that talk about... terribly uninteresting and irrelevant bullshit... but you still feel compelled to read it all, because... it's there...

It's just janky pacing.

These Stealth Boys Moira gave me are coming in handy, though.

Don't they talk about museum pieces and stuff? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

Anyways, Bethesda games like to add in a bunch of trivial details into everything

I've noticed... It's all well and good, just... have 'em separate. Have action segments, and then have quiet sections where you get to read shit. Don't mix them both--'cause if I'm in the mood to do one, I'm not gonna want to do the other.

Sure, I could always come back, but... Ehhhhh.

Some of those space facts were kinda cool, I guess. It would take 8.8 years to communicate with Alpha Centauri.

Like, the history room in Rivet City was cool, because that entire city is basically just a quiet little purgatory for you to collect your thoughts and regroup and shit, so it makes sense to have a little place to read some stuff--in this case, US history (and some made-up history--apparently what started the nuclear war was a dispute between the US and China, iirc). That was good.

this shit is just bleah

why do i need to know that they made it so they would lock you in the bathroom stalls until you flushed the toilet

so what year would it be during this game's events

i'm sure no one keeps track anymore, effectively making it year 0, but

Fallout 3 is set in 2277, exactly 200 years after the nuclear war

no, i've just had a terribly busy past few days, studying my new college major and stuff
thank you for asking

I can start playing again now, though.

All right, I wanna finish this game by December, so I'm gonna try to fuck around with sidequests a little bit less now.

You can honestly just find a free day and finish the entire main plot in like four or five hours, tops.

All right, I'll try.

I'm left quite astonished by the sheer amount of content in this game. I knew it was a lot, but it's more than that. The developers really went above and beyond to make sure every corner is just rich with stuff, and I really appreciate that. However, given the sheer size of the game, there are numerous bugs and imperfections present that the developers appear to have overlooked. Invisible walls are everywhere, the quick-select feature is quirky and unresponsive, and because of the game's free-roaming structure, it's very easy to sequence-break the game's main quests--all of which could've been easily avoided, but as others have pointed out to me a few times, it's hard for the developers to keep track of every little thing, considering how fucking enormous the game is.

I'm starting to warm up to the combat a bit, but it's still not really my favorite. Killing people just isn't that satisfying because of how clunky and awkward the weapons are. I rely on V.A.T.S. a lot to get clear hits, but I feel cheap doing that, because you're practically invincible when you use it. Most of the weapons range from shitty to just "okay," with the shishkebab blowtorch sword being my personal favorite as of right now. There aren't really any enemies I enjoy fighting, either. Everything's pretty annoying, except Super Mutants--but they're pretty annoying, too. There's a lot of random bullshit that I hate--like, sometimes raiders will have missile launchers and kill you instantly? Meh.

Really, for me, the main appeal of the game so far--aside from the exploration and the lore--has been the communication aspects. I like meeting new people, and I like doing favors for them. Because of the unique dialogue options, every conversation feels very human, and I love making moral decisions based on what these people are telling me. Like, I just got done with the Blood Ties quest, and--while I think the metros fucking suck--the story of how that kid snapped and tried to eat his parents, and how he ended up in an underground cult of cannibals, and how the cult is actually somewhat reasonable? That sort of shit is really cool to me, because of how subversive it was. I expected to kill all those bastards when I found them--but I ended up talking it out with them just fine. It was bizarre, but cool.

Other little things I like are looting, lockpicking, and hacking. There's something undeniably thrilling about finding a room full of neat stuff to sell or use, but only after cracking open a lock or hacking a computer while hiding from enemies.

So yeah, overall, thumbs up so far.

That wasn't very brief, was it? Oops.

You'd like Fallout NV a lot more I think, Verb The addition of ADS really does make it so you don't need to rely on VATS, but thankfully Fallout 4 has more than shown combat will be up to date like other FPS's in that it will not be clunky. Thank god.

That's good to hear. Yeah, it'll be hard not to follow this up with New Vegas when I'm finished, considering I'm supposed to play Dark Souls next.
