Played for a few more hours and once I got the STG-44, the game began to be slightly more enjoyable:
Cons
- Sniper rifles seem to be a one-shot kill no matter where you get hit. Also, you can't have iron sights with these guns, like come on man I want to use a Lee Enfield without a scope on it same with the Kar-98. The Mosin Nagant and Arisaka aren't in this game but I bet they will be added through supply drops™
- As far as the regular rifles are concerned the STG-44, BAR, and FG-42 dominate this game along with the sniper rifles. Sub-machine guns are really underpowered, but what really gets on my nerves is how the PPSH feels in this game. It's nothing how it is in real life other than the way it looks. It just feels like a reskinned MP5 and the drum mag doesn't give it 71 rounds like in WaW, only 52 instead. The MP40 and Thompson are the last sub-machine guns to unlock so you hardly see those around.
- The maps are absolute trash and way too small. This game's map selection lacks everything that WaW maps had, diversity with size. WaW had the perfect blend of small, medium, and large maps all offering different experiences and iconic locations. All the maps in this game are comparable to the size of Firing Range from Blops 1, all with your standard CoD 3-lanes. This is the only CoD game that doesn't have Ground War since there's no large maps.
- There are only 3 pistols to choose from for sidearms... THREE!
- The hit detection is THE WORST out of any CoD game to date. You can shoot a guy up to 15 times and have only 2 bullets hit them while they kill you in 2 shots without shooting more than 10. You watch the killcam, and it will show your guy not even firing a single bullet at the person.
- The spawns... I don't even have words for this.
- They give players the option to have incendiary rounds for shotguns right away, no effort at all besides leveling up your character to get the Division required. A person just has to get a hitmarker on you in order to kill you with incendiaries.
- The Scorestreaks are cool on paper but suck altogether other than the Guide Bomb. There's also no Attack Dogs like in WaW. Instead they're replaced by Paratroopers who are easily killed, and they're a high-tier Scorestreak too.
Pros
- I'm glad that the British gets some love as the Bren, Lee Enfield, and N 74 ST grenade are in the game and there's even a map based in London. They must have forgotten about the Sten but I guess having the Type 100 and Waffe 28 make up for that.
- The attention to detail is here in a lot of places. When on the Axis side and you have the Frag grenade equipped it is reskinned to the Steilhandgranate instead, same with the Bazooka and Panzerschreck. When you get the Flamethrower Scorestreak as the Axis, it will be a Flammenwerfer instead of the M2 Flamethrower for the Allies. The M1 Garand has the ping sound when it empties the mag, but this is expected to be in the game. Also on the map skyboxes, you can see planes flying around, bombs exploding in the background, and AA fire. I just wish the Axis plane-related Scorestreaks had that wailing horn that the Luftwaffe used on their planes.
- There's a good selection of primary weapons to choose from even though most people use rifles. It just sucks that the secondary weapon option is severely lacking right now.
- You can unlock different uniforms from different countries that fought in WWII for your soldier. I don't know if they're historically accurate or even real but that's cool. Last WWII CoD game to represent a lot of countries was CoD 3.
- The game doesn't have your typical 3 perks that CoD games are known for. Instead you only pick 1 so this makes gameplay a little more even than games before.
- Specialists that CoD has had with the past 2 games (Blops 3 and IW) are gone so no longer can bad players receive a Scorestreak reward that can be used to get easy kills.
