Depends on my mood. Sometimes I'll name them on catch, sometimes I'll never name them, sometimes I'll name them after a while when I come up with something.

I really don't get why they don't have him naming the ones that are the closest to him for that series. You would think Pikachu would have a nickname by now out of friendship and respect. Ash calling Pikachu Pikachu would be like him calling Misty "women" every time he addressed her.

OT: Yeah, I nickname some of my special pokemon.

Like the Shiny Umbreon I spent ages MMing for, I always nickname my Garde/Gallades something to do with Psychology, I sometimes come up with them for other special pokemon too. And now and then I make names for a bit of fun, like a Pichu called Denko >______>
I just wish I could use other keyboards to type nicknames with, so I could give some really stupid emoji names >_______>
