Destiny 2 is actually pretty good now

I've had a lot of fun with it since Forsaken came out.

Yesterday they released a new exotic quest called Zero Hour which is a lot of fun. Joke's Wild hasn't been abhuge success, but there have been a lot of cool little quality of life adjustments this season. Black Armory was really good. Armor is still ugly as sin, I hope in the next major expansion they add some good looking stuff to the game, but there have been tons of cool guns added.

Is anyone still playing this game in 2019?

Yeah it's pretty great. Although Black Armory is the worst expansion in Destiny's history IMO, even worse than The Dark Below. Joker's Wild is alright but I don't have too much interest in playing Gambit anymore. The lore is the most interesting part because it basically confirms Drifter's an incel, making him an infinitely more entertaining character than he was when Forsaken released.

Zero Hour is definitely one of the best things they've added in over a year. The content plan this year hasn't been perfect but it's certainly a lot better than the days of Destiny 1, where you'd get something like The Taken King and then nothing for the next year. Now it feels like there's a substantial amount of stuff to do even if I don't care for some of it.

What did you hate so much about Black Armory?

The quests for unlocking the forges are some of the worst gameplay padding I've seen in this series, and the fact that on release you had to go up 20-30 light levels (assuming you were even max level for Forsaken) to actually have any chance of doing the forges themselves (which get stale very quickly) was absolute bullshit. Joker's Wild at least got this right, you could pretty much do the new content as soon as it was released, and even if you weren't a high enough level, the Power Surge bounties would help you get there. Aside from that the lore of Black Armory is not interesting in the slightest, whereas Joker's Wild has a lot of interesting stuff that actually relates to the ongoing storyline.

Really the only enjoyable part of BA for me is the raid, and even then I don't have as much desire to replay that as much as I did Last Wish or Leviathan.

I loved Black Armory and I'm still consistently playing this game on PC. Unfortunately my Klan is full of alt-right retards and that's the biggest detractor for me right now. Zero Hour was bad-ass, and a modest improvement over The Whisper.

Been having a blast as well. Forsaken was amazing and brought me back to Destiny after quitting a bit after Warmind's release. Black Armory was meh, Joker's Wild has been great so far and I mostly just spend my time in Gambit/Gambit Prime now, and I can't wait to see what we get in Penumbra. Zero Hour was undoubtedly fun and I'm happy to have the Outbreak Prime in my hands again.

I've been playing it some again on Xboner and it's been fun enough, but I don't have any friends that play and it's not as fun as D1 was when I had friends to do shit with. I've held off on getting the annual pass because of that.

I'm really hoping for a Vex dungeon. Vault of Glass is still one of my favorite raids, and I'd like to see them work more with the mechanics of the Vex, since they have been ridiculously underutilized in Destiny 2. They can have an interesting impact on the world around them, and when they're used the way they were in CoO, the enemy type just isn't done justice.

If you count Eater of Worlds then the Vex have technically had a D2 raid. But yeah, the Vex haven't really done anything since vanilla D1. Really they should be one of the bigger threats seeing as they can literally time travel and simulate timelines but for the most part they've been pretty useless, even in Curse of Osiris.

The good news is, Quria seems to be an interesting enemy. A Vex mind of the same archetype as Panoptes, and responsible for facilitating the curse on the Dreaming City, there may be a Dungeon in which we finally address the threat of Quria, Blade Transform.

So there will likely be redemption for the Vex.

Never would solely because I can't use the products of a developer who thinks it's totally reasonable to release a sub-par product then update it to being passable then gets a ton of praise for "fixing" what they themselves screwed up in the first place. Happens with too many games these days.

That's why they make all the old content free.

You've basically never had to pay for a Destiny Content drop from a year you didn't play in. In Destiny 1, you could get all year 1 content for free with The Taken King, and all year 1 & 2 content free with Rise of Iron. In Destiny 2, the base game actually became free when Forsaken launched, and Forsaken came with all year 1 content if you decided to buy it. Come September, I'm certain you'll be able to get all D2 year 1, 2, and annual pass content free with the year 3 dlc.

It's not their fault that idiots pre-order games, or buy them without hearing what people have to say about them first.

Frankly though, Destiny 2 arrived to massive praise for its new campaign. I felt that it really set itself apart from D1 with its storytelling oriented approach to... well... the story. And the critics agreed. It wasn't until later that the luster began to fade, as people realized that there wasn't much to do after the game was completed. That doesn't mean the game was bad by any stretch, it just means that people got what they asked for, and realized that they also wanted what they already had.

The first season pass released with actual warnings not to it.

Curse of Osiris and Warmind went over like a fart in church, and if you pre-ordered them, yeah, I bet that sucked.

But what's the point of all this?

It doesn't hurt you at all to not spend that $40 and spend six months playing some other game. All you have to do is ask questions about what you're buying before you buy it, and if at the end of the day you looked at Curse of Osiris on day one, and read the reviews warning you it was abysmal, and decided "I wanna play this DLC now for $20 and not later for free." then that's the decision you've made.

But nobody tricked anyone into making it, and nobody deserves to be chagrined for working hard to make things better.

Lord knows I didn't spend any money on the first season pass, but I'm also not so tied up in feeling like I'm owed something that I can't enjoy the game now that it's a decent amount of fun to play, and especially now that the world has so much to do in it.
