It is consensual. Don't want people to invade? Go hollow or don't play the game.
You don't get to play co-op if you play hollow, and you're forced to play as an ugly... thing.

Bad game design.

Your guy is usually covered head to toe in armour anyway so you don't have to see that dried out bacon strip. The character is titled "the chosen undead", though, so if you don't like playing as a zombie this game really isn't for you.

An easy workaround to this is to play hollow and when you think you need help go human and summon someone (it's what I do when I don't want to fight people).

Yes, they can be very frustrating, but ultimately you can stop them from happening by killing a specific NPC in the level, or just quitting and coming back. Invasions are kind of fun because you can set traps for them too; they don't occur in arena, they occur anywhere in a level, so you can prepare yourself (or just hide and let them leave).
I was told you could do that in Bloodborne, but not Dark Souls.

And breach of consent. Which is a pretty big fucking sin when it comes to playing a game that is meant to be entertaining to play.

Discern between an invasion and NPC aggro range.

You walk within an NPCs aggro range and you made a choice that comes with the consequence of a fight. You leave the bonfire as a human and linger too long, someone is going to hunt you for humanity.

NPCs aren't sentient and just do what they're programmed to do.

Human beings are sentient, and actively make the choice to fuck you over without asking.

NPCs don't have to ask--the "consent" is that you're playing a video game where you are expected to kill some NPCs.

You consent to playing a game where people attack you without consent. So, it's not really an issue of consent here, it's an issue of you not giving the game a chance and just blindly hating on it.

No, you don't. There is no contract or disclaimer at the beginning of the game that says, "People in this game behave like cunts. Brace yourself."

Only then would you have a point.

I was told you could do that in Bloodborne, but not Dark Souls.

You can quit out of invasions in any Souls game, and like I said, it occurs in specific areas, not just anywhere. A fun feature is that you can 'indict' invaders by speaking to an NPC who adds their name to a list of people to be invaded more often. And like others have said, just staying hollow stops it all, and since you only summon players and NPCs for bosses, you'll only be human for a couple minutes.

Sounds like you're going to give the series another try, so I don't need to convince you. I just hope this puts you a little more at ease about something I think you believed was very disruptive. You could easily play through the whole game as human without getting invaded once.

A lot of what verb says is just blatantly wrong because he hasn't even played the game past the tutorial.
There is no way, no how to justify non-consensual invasions. I don't care how they work.
good thing their aren't any non-consensual invasions then huh
"Rape is consensual."

ok solonoid

You really have gone full retard. You've been absolutely proven wrong on multiple times on this and you STILL insist on "LOL NO THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS I DON'T CONSENT LOL"

You have no ability to even argue on the mechanics here, considering you left the tutorial incomplete like a little bitch. The game kicked your ass before you even had a chance to experience the possibility of other players and you're clearly asshurt about it. That, or you insist on repeating the same broken argument over so much you'd make an autistic child's redundant habits look completely normal by comparison. Your tactic here is literally bring every down to your level and "beat" them by persistent stupidity.

Also, it's kind of hard to argue that the Souls community is fun, polite, and follows PVP etiquette while Souls fans shit all over a new player expressing legitimate concerns about a unique feature of the game he's probably never seen before.

I don't think I signed that contract. I didn't see that disclaimer.
That's because there isn't one, as far as I know.

Would you concede that there should be?

As turkey said, you can punish people for acting like a shithead. Though, tbh, indictments have kinda been reduced to a message basically saying "this guy is super mad that you killed him".

Is there a disclaimer that you'll have to fight NPCs? Why does there have to be one? Do you cry over the NPC invasions too?  The back of the box says there's online multiplayer.

You're wrong. I'm simply trying to explain that the mechanic isn't really that bad and that there are ways around it.

No. Stop comparing NPCs to humans. They're two fundamentally different things.
Quote
Why does there have to be one?
Because it's a form of consent. Without it, the player cannot be blamed for getting invaded, because he had no way of knowing you could get invaded in this game until it happened.
Quote
Do you cry over the NPC invasions too?
No, because, again, NPCs are not people.

If it happens at complete random, then yeah, that might be cause for complaint.
RNG always has been stupid, in any game.
Quote
The back of the box says there's online multiplayer.
But not invasions.
