"why do I have to fight this boss? I don't consent to this enemy being here""oh I can skip the boss at the cost of having to traverse a dangerous area? Wtf I don't want to mitigate my experience"
Quote from: KinderEssen on December 07, 2015, 10:35:45 AMIt is consensual. Don't want people to invade? Go hollow or don't play the game. You don't get to play co-op if you play hollow, and you're forced to play as an ugly... thing.Bad game design.

Invasions are lore-driven
and only occur in a couple specific, high-level areas to purposefully add a challenge. Yes, they can be very frustrating, but ultimately you can stop them from happening by killing a specific NPC in the level, or just quitting and coming back. Invasions are kind of fun because you can set traps for them too; they don't occur in arena, they occur anywhere in a level, so you can prepare yourself (or just hide and let them leave).

The only legitimate complaints that can be had about PvP that doesnt apply to NPCs are shit netcode, exploits, and balance problems.

Which is a pretty big fucking sin when it comes to playing a game that is meant to be entertaining to play.

You walk within an NPCs aggro range and you made a choice that comes with the consequence of a fight. You leave the bonfire as a human and linger too long, someone is going to hunt you for humanity.
You consent to playing a game where people attack you without consent. So, it's not really an issue of consent here, it's an issue of you not giving the game a chance and just blindly hating on it.

I was told you could do that in Bloodborne, but not Dark Souls.

There is no contract or disclaimer at the beginning of the game that says, "People in this game behave like cunts. Brace yourself."Only then would you have a point.

A lot of what verb says is just blatantly wrong because he hasn't even played the game past the tutorial.
That's not the games problem. That's a problem with people.

You leave the bonfire as a human and linger too long, someone is going to hunt you for humanity.NPCs aren't sentient and just do what they're programmed to do.Human beings are sentient, and actively make the choice to fuck you over without asking.NPCs don't have to ask--the "consent" is that you're playing a video game where you are expected to kill some NPCs.
Also, it's kind of hard to argue that the Souls community is fun, polite, and follows PVP etiquette while Souls fans shit all over a new player expressing legitimate concerns about a unique feature of the game he's probably never seen before.
In this game you consent to invasions by playing as a human. You're expected to do these things.
Quote from: KinderEssen on December 07, 2015, 10:59:42 AMThat's not the games problem. That's a problem with people.Sure. But the game itself does fuck all about it, beyond the whole hollow thing. It enables players to act like shitheads, and that's what I hate.

ITT:Verb: I do not like this mechanic and so it's a bad game and my personal opinion is now fact.Everyone else: No you're not allowed to dislike this cause muh Dark Souls superiority complex.
Is there a disclaimer that you'll have to fight NPCs?
Why does there have to be one?
Do you cry over the NPC invasions too?
The back of the box says there's online multiplayer.
