You can either purchase the means to unlock the door from Andre for 20k souls or enter alternatively through darkroot basin (to the left of the hydra, up two ladders, and left on the path). For the sake of saving time I'd invest the 20k souls, you don't have to wander as far. You can roughly make 2-3k souls/minute farming the npcs in the area after getting used to them, so you are recompensed quickly.
Respec'd to a quality build, kind of disappointed you can't change your base class though since I'm stuck with a high int and faith.

In the rafters part of the Cathedral of the Deep, you can drop down onto a balcony, then drop down to another balcony next to it full of maggot things.
