I just want to say that I think the bonfire placement of Dark Souls 3 is just as shitty as Dark Souls 2. I could probably make a longer post about why I don't like Dark Souls 3 as much, such as relying on Dark Souls 1 armor sets too much, or pushing almost all of Dark Souls 2 stuff aside, the good and the bad, along with various other things.

But yeah, I know it's not finished yet, but I feel this game has gotten a lot less flak for it because Miyazaki is doing it, and he "can do no wrong", when really I think that's not really the case. It's a good thing he's taking a break from these games.

If you also have the time, watch an hour long video about it. Keep in mind what I posed is what I felt before even watching this. I still actually haven't finished it. Only like 20 mins in.

Edit: Here's my post from another thread

Spoiler
I don't. I've been keeping my mouth shut mostly since I'd be too lazy to get into the discussion again, but I think Dark Souls 2 was more a proper sequel than Dark Souls 3 since I personally feel Souls 3 was almost always just taking from the glory days of Dark Souls 1, without taking bold and new directions like 2 did.

I'm not saying 2 was the better game (though I think the PvP experience in DS2 is the best in the series), because it had its fair share of issues (ADAPTABILITY AS A SKILL WHYYYY), but it felt like the devs actually tried to take a risk or two. Dark Souls 3 felt like almost all the armor was from Dark Souls 1, or they were flashing things from DS1 in your face going "hey guys remember this? Member???"

I felt the same way with Pokemon X/Y, though not to as massive of a degree. They things they shoved in your face in X/Y from gen 1 was terrible.

Edit: And for what its worth, ignoring the first DLC of DS2, I felt they learned from their mistakes and took the criticism to heart and made two great DLC's that helped the overall product. Now we compare yet for DS3 yet since all the DLC isn't out yet, and there will be more patches along the way, but yeah.

We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the shitlord scripture the Bhagavad Reeeeeeeta; Kek is trying to persuade the prince that he should save his people, and to impress him takes on his frog-headed form, and says, "Now I am become meme, the destroyer of cucks." I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.
it exists

A lot of the opinions about level design in OP's video are in opposition to hbomberguy's, so here's another video to consider:

YouTube

But wow, that Sulyvahn fight. A lot of the bosses felt like they didn't sufficiently telegraph attacks, but I figured it was just more needing to git gud than an error with their chained attacks causing those animations to skip. Eventually I decided the best way to avoid combo attacks is to immediately dodge away from any attack that occurs after another movement.

One explanation is that they decided that players didn't need to just learn the timing of attacks, but also the safe 'zones' that could be dodged into. In DkS1, you can dodge directly into an enemy and be safe. In DkS3, it definitely felt like you need to dodge more intelligently. In his Sulyvahn example (the first one, with the weird poke stab), he dodged an attack and rolled directly in front of Suly's other sword. Realistically, why wouldn't the boss just take advantage of that and stab the player? Another example is at 35:30 against Champion Gundyr; he dodges an attack, but is then hit by another attack that makes contact before his dodge is even complete. However, that attack is a really specific move; it is a followup, and is only done on his left side, and the animation flows naturally from the previous attack. Well instead of the player complaining about "frame munching" or whatever he called it, maybe this was an attempt from the devs to make the dodge less of such an easy, gimmicky trick that makes you immune to almost any attack. If he had dodged behind Gundyr instead, he probably would have been safe.

Bloodborne is the main Problem with DkS3.
The game does not know if it wants to be Bloodborne or Dark Souls, and so we ended up with this godawful amalgamation.

-Color pallet on par with early 1900s films
-Overly agressive/fast enemies
-ridiculous emphasis on parrying
-R1 spam
-Horrible roll mechanics,
-Magic in all forms is on par with a low level Arcane build
-Terrible weapon sandbox
-PvP isa complete downgrafe form DkS2
-Chugging Meta
-Pointles fanservice anywhere
-And the shittiest boss lineup since Halo 4

it's the worst in the series because it's derivative?

because that is consistently the only complaint i've ever hear about it--"too much like dark souls 1"

is that what qualifies as "worst in the series" now?

Combat is too focused around dodging due to weakened shields and rolls being spammable with little punishment

Weapon balance is very poor. Heavy weapons do not do enough damage to warrant their weight and stamina consumption. A good example of this is the Fume Ultra Greatsword. It is the heaviest, most stamina hungry weapon in the entire game but does not do top-tier damage or even close to. Some weapons outright outclass other weapons in their category, like the Carthus Curved Sword being better in every meaningful way than all the other curved swords.

Poise is still underwhelming even after the buff.

Healing is very hard to punish in PvP, unless it is a miracle heal.

Magic is the weakest in the series.

Yeah, the game calls back to Dark Souls 1 far too much while almost ignoring Dark Souls 2.

You will find out who you are not a thousand times, before you ever discover who you are. I hope you find peace in yourself and learn to love instead of hate.
I love and enjoy DS1 too much to bother with the others. I've played them but I put them down rather quickly after like an 1 hour or so, the first is too perfect to ruin with sub standard sequels

Mechanically and OST wise I'd say it's the best in the series, but the weapon balance is pretty awful and the game itself is pretty heavy with the DS1 fanservice.

It's like you're completely ignoring the PvP or 2nd half of the game of DS1. DS1 fails horribly once you get the soul vessel. At least 2 and 3 are more consistent with their approach.

By finished you mean they're not gonna be doing those patches pointed out? What a shame, cuz some of the bosses are pretty shit with their moveset.

I expect all the DLC to not hold a candle to Dark Souls 2's

Speaking of Dks1 and the Lordvessel, were is Verb in it at this point? He was at OnS while I was still stuck on Capra.
At this point iv'e beaten Seath, saved Solaire and i'm headed down to fight Leeroy Jenkins and Mr Skeletal.
I am absolutely dreading the Bed of Chaos

Preparing to fight Seath. I entered his lair and got fucked in what I'm assuming was a scripted fight, and now I'm trying to escape wherever I ended up. I'll talk more about it in my thread whenever I decide to write another update.

I'm officially in the dreaded second half, so I'm eager to see what everyone hates about it so much.

Do people tend to hate the second half? Lost Izalith and Demon Ruins are my favorite in the game. It's really awe-inspiring to look up and think about the history of the place and what it means for the story. It gives me the same feeling as Ash Lake.

That's the general impression I've been getting lately, yeah. The top 2 things I hear are Blighttown and the second half. I won't let that hamper my expectations, but it seems to be a pretty common (if recent) sentiment.

Some of it seems rushed and incomplete, but I really hope you stop and admire the scenery when you're down there.

I've always found the constant theme of decay in the game to be deeply unsettling. Ash Lake for example is the lowest known geography in all of the Souls games. The entirety of the explored world, particularly Lordran, is built on the (presumably) petrified canopy of the archtrees. Just slightly above it in the first layer are locations like Lost Izalith, the Demon Ruins, and Tomb of the Giants.

My biggest issue is the gimmick boss fights. You have to purposely handicap yourself if you want to have a true tough fight against Yhorm (not use the Storm Ruler), which is how I think it should have been originally. The fact that the Abyss Watcher can be back-stabbed is just insulting. Parrying is fine because it requires the skill to time it correctly, but backstabs are just an easy way out. Almost forgot about the Ancient Wyvern fight. Hurr just do a one hit kill plunging attack.
