Yes. The only people buying it now are people starting late in the series and may have only heard of CoD4 when it was fantastic, but now it's same-old-same-old. I stopped buying them after Black Ops, and since then I get my mindless violence kicks elsewhere which I find better.

I mean c'mon, they added realistic looking gore for W@W, then removed it, then modified it to shortlived meatball blood splatters. I can get better from GoW (which has argueably declined since 3) and GTA which has a lot more of everything, and now includes a first person mode. If I want something a tad less headless and rushy I can play Battlefield, (though 4 and Hardline have really let the series down, 3 was the catalyst) which actually has vehicles and is debateably better.

actually there's only 6 modern/futuristic cods (black ops 1 doesn't count)

but anyways im just saying it's silly to revert back to ww2 as a solution to cod apparently being the same every year

don't get me wrong, i love ww2 games, but ww2 is just one war, a real war at that, which slightly limits possibilities, and so after a while there really isn't any difference between one game and another

with a modern/futuristic setting, you're allowed more creativity setting wise

it doesn't even have to be modern, just something other than ww2, which is the war that has had the most games based off of it

more ww1 games, for example, would be cool

So why does it need to go back to something it already did before and not something else that could be new? How is that a better change than what it is now? So you want to go from a circle from modern games back to the WW2 circle jerk? With sci-fi games there's a lot more freedom to them and they are able to give us something new since the things in the game can be made up. With a WW2 game you're limited to what was used in the war.

CoD is simple and fun, and has a solid multiplayer. Over-the-top plots and cookie cutter characters are just part of the fun.

Is it basically the same mechanics as it was a decade ago? Yeah, but I still consider CoD 2 one of my favorite games, so I'm not complaining. If you can play CoD without having fun, you might just be a boring person.

Assassin's Creed 2-3 was a huge change, including the installment of a brand new engine (and they're building Unity with a brand new engine as well).

CoD mainly just copies and pastes the same engine for most of its games.

Unity runs on AnvilNext too. Just the combat and parkour was redone from the ground up.
