Fallout 3 had shades of this, which I neglected to mention in my review.

While the dialogue options were clear and told you exactly what you were going to say, there was no way to tell how the NPC was going to respond. You might have actually chosen the "rude" option when you thought it seemed more polite in your head.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

Fallout 3 had shades of this, which I neglected to mention in my review.

While the dialogue options were clear and told you exactly what you were going to say, there was no way to tell how the NPC was going to respond. You might have actually chosen the "rude" option when you thought it seemed more polite in your head.
It's worse in Fallout 4. Literally a character thing that says SARCASTIC and you don't know if you're gonna make a funny joke or be a dick.

It's the most inconsistent thing ever

I've completely avoided the sarcastic option because of it

Since I'm doing a Nora playthrough and can see everything you say, I'm using it more. She always struck me as a witty person.

TellTale also do this sometimes.
In Ep1 of TWD you could say "fuck you" to the cop, and if you pick it Lee just makes an angry noise.

If I'm not here, I'm doing photography. Or I'm asleep. Or in lockdown. One of those three, anyway.

The current titlebar/avatar setup is just normal.

If you thought Fallout 3 was problematic, Fallout 4 took a dump on the dialog choices:

A/X: Yes
B/Circle: No (for now)
X/Square: Something funny for interesting dialog OR be a dick and possibly get into a fight about it.
Y/Triangle:

Smoother, definitely (No more of that "I wanna talk about something else... GOODBYE") but at the cost of choice.

I neither fear, nor despise.
Some of the Renegade options were worse. I thought I'd tell a reporter off.

No....I decked her in the face.

There was an option in the Witcher 2 at the beginning

The option went like "why are you holding me prisoner"

Select it and Geralt casually says "Go fuck yourself "

Thankfully The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt lacks such varying dialogue, in a masterfully crafted system that ensures you actually say something remotely like the option

This is not the greatest sig in the world, no. This is just a tribute.
The last time Bioware dialogue made sense was DA:O... I don't know why they love this wheel so fucking much. Just picking your full dialogue was so much clearer.

It's because of voice acting.

But a full line option and voices didn't have to be mutually exclusive.

I know. The Fallout 4 mod does that. I guess people see it as impractical.

hey
I mean with voice acting you don't have to read the whole option to know what you said (Since your character will say it), but at the same time it makes the options all simplified and what you're actually going to say unclear
