SSE in Brawl was long, boring, and ultimately underwhelming. For some reason, despite being a game where all the big Nintendo franchises come together, it felt the need to be excruciatingly dark and depressing. Even Mario doesn't crack a smile once in the entire game. That's not inherently bad--but that Nintendo charm just... wasn't there.

On top of that, since there was no dialogue, it was hard to tell just what the fuck was going on. Character motives were either unclear or didn't make sense. Some character appearances felt useless to the plot (Ice Climbers) or shoehorned in at the last second (Sonic). The level designs were pretty damn atrocious, and you had to play through it all again twice.

And yet, it was advertised to be one of the most "epic" and exciting things about Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

not sure how that qualifies as jumping the shark.

but I liked Subspace Emissary (Exept for that fucking "maze" at the end just for padding.)
I found keeping up with the story easy even without any dialogue.

Smash 4 is "good" (as in tolerable), but it's still no Melee.

OP, 'jumping the shark' is a term used to demonstrate when a show has reached a point where the writers have run out of original ideas and resort to some lame shtick to keep viewers interested, correlating with a decline in quality.

An example would be CoD Zombies. "Giving the Covenant back their bomb" is not.

I guess he thinks it has something to do with Unrealism/out of character moments in Gaming?

Anyway, one could make a pretty strong Argument for Halo: Reach in that it's a significant turning point in the franchise, and the beginning of a Decline for a lot of people, but I don't personally feel too strongly about it and Halo is one of 3 games I ever talk about, so I'll leave that one.

I feel like F-Zero GX had potential to be a Shark Jump if Nintendo didn't decide to pull the plug on the basis of not being able to bring anything new to the table in a future release (Fuck me, right? Just admit to not having optimistic financial projections for the IP, because Mario Party, Kart, etc. haven't revolutionized jack shit in years if you ask me). Back on topic, GX felt like a different game to me personally. The music was a completely different genre to X, the post-cup interviews seemed lame and gimmicky (they had the announcer guy trembling in fear as the Racer announced some noble or dastardly plan), and I feel as if they would have continued down that stylistic path if the IP had been continued in that era, tweaking a few extra things each release that make it feel less and less like F-Zero.

Just my two cents fam

Call of Duty had a few.

The game that foreshadowed today's bombardment of annual, endless sequels was Call of Duty 3. Arguably jumps the shark by not being made by Infinity Ward.

Modern Warfare 2's over-the-top ridiculousness jumped a shark or two. The nuke scene above works better as 'jumping the shark' if it's taken in the context of the series before that point, and how the whole game contrasts with Call of Duty 4's grounded-in-reality tone.

Modern Warfare 3 had two big ones, not including the lousy multiplayer:

I enjoyed the interactions of Fox, Falco, and Diddy a ton

Subspace emissary cutscenes  were cool, didn't care for the actual game play though. And once they went in the big portal I didn't really like where the story went

Quality decline since? Smash 4 is infinitely better than brawl.

And I'd say 4 and Melee are both good. They are just good in different ways. Sort of a subjective matter eventually

I agree, but... I dunno, it's hard to explain my thoughts on it in only a couple sentences.

Melee has overall better gameplay, while Smash 4 offers loads of content and a great balance between serious and casual.

Well that's really what I meant, a balance of competitive and casual. Though, how is Melee's game play better? Seems subjective to me

And I actually do prefer melee

This entire game. This game is the exact point where Sonic went from being cool to being autistic. I mean sure, the game itself wasn't bad, but it tried way too fucking hard to be cool to the point where it ended up being hilariously edgy.
