Is Civ V worth getting into?

The Compete Edition of Civ V, with all the DLC packs, is $12.50 on Steam. Obviously it's a great deal, but I've never played a Civ game, and rarely play strategy games in general. But I've heard good things about this series; do you recommend getting into the genre with this game?

Disregarding Verb's esteemed post, I've played Civ 4, Rev, and a little of 5. 5 being the best one.

If you like the idea of a strategy board game then go ahead. It's also a pretty cool way to learn some history (encyclopedia on it, wonders description, etc). If you get it, be prepared to actually take the time to learn how to play, and invest many hours into a single playthrough. The games can take quite a bit.

I personally think the series is great. You can always try the demo they have available too, which I'd honestly recommend. If you like it, than get it. $12.50 is a steal for that game.

If you don't mind games that can take multiple IRL days to complete a game of I say go for it. It's 4x though so you should take a look at other 4x games to see if it's something you'd like to get into (provided you've never played a 4x game before).

Civ 5 (with all of the DLC) is definitely one of the better entries into the series.

Uh.

The AI is pretty broken.

But it's pretty fun. Just don't expect much from the AI cause it's fucking horrible.

Yep, but only if you've got time. You could play for an entire day and still not finish your game.
