That is true for example World of Tanks. You can play for free to get to a 10 tier tank which would take a while or you can buy a premium account along with gold and those premium tanks. When you pay actual money in a game to rank up faster that's not even worth it you didn't do yourself a favor at all. You just wasted money on a game that's set up to be against you so you buy things. The thing about premium tanks is that they become shit compared to tanks of the same tier when you upgrade them. When you max upgrade a tank then you can use it just like a premium tank. So that tank you wasted $50 of real money on is now pointless.

Eh, some of the prems ain't bad. I've had a hell of a time against people in the Jagd. 8.8... but that's probably the only tier 8 prem worth it's weight... I'd never spend the money for it. Some of the lower tier prems are just plain fun to play though.
Subscription is ridiculously cheap too.
