[SERIOUS] Wanting to pick up Dark Souls

I've never played it. I know that it's going to be hard. Like kick my ass up and down the street repeatedly hard. I have accepted that, but I need more reasons to pick it up. So give me serious advice and input, both positive and negative please.

Even if the main base styles of play are:
Fat tank
Nimble rogue
Squishy mage

You can really change up how you play with different weapons(all weapons attack differently), armor(looks, weight and defense), your rings(giving different bonuses and the items you use in battle.

Plus every enemy you face, as long as it looks different, plays different. With different attacks, defenses, skills and items. The bosses being very unique in how you fight them.

Last is the story...yeah there is one. Every item you pick up can help explain bits and pieces of the lore in Dark Souls. Talking to NPC's unravels different pieces of the puzzle as well, and just looking around checking every nook and cranny reveals more. However a lot is left up to interpretation.

Pros:
-Polished combat mechanics that are unrivaled by most games
-Incredible atmosphere and mood
-Plot that isn't conveniently spelled out for you in predictable chunks
-Difficulty is achieved by means other than bullet-sponge enemies
-Boss fights are genuinely unique and challenging
Cons:
-Murky story that is almost completely explained via subtext
-It can be frustratingly difficult
-Mechanics are either explained very briefly or left to be discovered by the player
-Non-linear path can be extremely confusing without a guide

There's a bit of dialog and a couple cutscenes, but the lore is fleshed out in item descriptions and general context clues.

Odds are once you play it, get into it, and beat it, you'll be looking up lore stuff on YouTube like anyone else.

And I'd just say two things

Exhaust NPC dialogue. That means keep talking until they repeat themselves

and never EVER level Resistance. It's useless

Never ever consume Firekeeper Souls, they're used to boost the substance of each Estus sip

Everything else you should discover on your own

Ultimately it's trial and error. You'll improve yourself on each death, understand new ways to kill enemies and bosses.

It's not hard to understand.
But using a polearm without lock-on illustrates how much of a crutch the lock-on system is.
And bow combat failed incredibly.

Do you guys play it on pc? Because I see a lot of reviews saying the pc port is horrid. Should I be worried, because I was only going to get it for pc?

I played on 360. Laggy as all hell in some areas but overall worked well.

DS fix is a must have for PC. The port itself was absolutely horrible. Get a controller if you're playing on PC btw. Keyboard and mouse are almost always a no no for action adventure 3rd person games.

DSfix also lets you run it at 60fps, though it'll mess up in a few areas I believe. Nothing I ran into thats major so far though.

the 60 fps does make it so you can't jump as far for some reason
and if you slide down some of the really long ladders it makes you go through the floor when you hit the bottom
