If you wanna try a MMO that's different you might wanna try EVE. It's an open world MMO and a whole lot different the the others. I enjoy it alot, it's difficult to learn though.
Sorry, but even EVE has a meta when it comes down to fleet engagements. You can't just throw together a kitchen sink and expect to take on a doctrine fleet that's around the same competency level.
The thing about that is that every fleet has a counter. You won't win most of the time in kitchen sink, but an organized fleet has a good chance. The only real 'meta' is a common doctrine. But that's always changing.
For example, a couple days ago I went on a HIC fleet, never really done before. We completely destroyed one of the meta doctrines, napocs.
As long as you know what you're doing you have a good chance to win against a 'meta'.
