'Why play a sports game when you can just go do it for real?'

I see this a lot and I don't really get it the argument. I thought videogames were a way of escapism and doing things you wouldn't really do in real life. I like playing SSX games but that doesn't mean I have to travel miles to the nearest snowy mountain to do it.

I don't think escapism is a good reason to do anything, really. I used to think the same way, but honestly, considering the stupid shit people are willing to do for the sake of "escapism", I can't say I personally consider it a rational endeavor. I play video games because they're engaging in some way, and sports games, being the way they are, are the opposite of that in my view.

But no, I wouldn't use the "why not just play real sports" argument, ever.

To each their own I guess, I enjoy anything as long as it's good. If it really gets me into it and takes me into the world then it's doing a good job

because if you ever played any games of football, basketball, etc that it's always more fun than video game versions. At least in my IMO.

But there's times when you can't play for real (bad weather, nighttime, ect)

Plus, it's not like I can just go and have a catch with Aaron Rodgers or play a pick up game with Lebron.
