There will probably be a decent trade-in/upgrade deal at retailers like when current gen consoles first released.

Phil Spencer did state the same thing about XB1, but I don't see how a few of new features/components for possibly +$399.99 will get anyone to buy what they technically already own.

Might as well just release PS5 or Xbox 720.

In terms of hardware, consoles can no longer stay competitive against PCs in this day and age. Unlike the 360 and PS3, who were actually an equal to PC at launch, the PS4 and One launched already lagging behind. As long as people continue to cry for prettier graphics and higher framerates, the rate at which consoles release will likely increase.

Huh. I thought this might have been the case, but I was thinking in terms of technological progression in the same way as the last generation.

Neat, but i'll be getting a PC later anyway so unless the trade in deal is 10/10 for value, I'll probably just stick with the ones I have.

It'd be best if Gen 9 had swappable parts to stay current without an entirely new console.

Useless without a 4K display too, which is going to cost you significantly more than the console itself.

Hardly worth the investment.
