I'd have this hypothetical kid give older games a shot, if only because it's much more bearable to learn the controls for them while you're young rather than when you're older. I wouldn't force it, though; if my kid wanted to play nothing but Minecraft, that's their choice.

My child can play whatever I have available (provided they're old enough for it). With that being said, most of what I have that's "Old" are remakes/ports that are updated. I'm not break out an archaic console that needs the TV flipped to channel 3 just to get it to work when the same game is either on a handheld or can be bought on the store of a newer console.

i don't wanna force old games on a hypothetical kid but i think it would be a decent idea to try and introduce them to the games from the era i grew up in when they begin showing interest in gaming- i feel like the high quality of modern visuals/audio would turn them off to some older games on principle if they're initially introduced to mostly modern games. starting them off with older games might help keep their minds open when it comes to that sort of thing, though they would ultimately have the final choice in the matter.

Most probably say this because of the nostalgia they have for the games they played when they were young however it does makes sense to encourage kids to play older games, the simpler controls and visuals is a lot easier for them to grasp.
