Caster is much more suited for home defense than Saber.

Guns run out of ammo. Effective, but not sustainable.

And OP didn't say choose a melee weapon, he said choose a gun.

"Pocket knives" are kind of implied though

simply post so and equip yourself a gun

Or you could be Assassin, and not have to deal with them in the first place.
