Your love gets me so high
height
Lets say being short ran in your family and the tallest people in it are lucky if they reach 5ft. Wouldn't you want the ability to get rid of that defect by being able to remove that gene or getting rid of it?

personality traits.
If you were able to wouldn't you want to remove the trait that causes your kid to be anti-social or hostile?
You're implying that it's inherently wrong to be anti-social and hostile, though.

His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

has made people with Down syndrome an endangered population
Is this guy serious? Is he seriously worried that Down syndrome in humans may disappear?

Anyway, I don't have really have a stance for or against. I'll always think of GATTACA with the discussion, but as long as it's economically feasible for everyone then I see no reason not to build the perfect human being. There's always the problem of homogeneity in the population, but I'm certain that there would be precautions against that.

I support genetic enhancements for the purpose of not only making sure that somebody is born healthy but that our own natural limits are pushed as far as we can take them.

But when you throw in tinkering and the process of selection, what you want, or don't want, then things become an issue. Society is all about trends. I want you to think about what would happen if a trend, a meme, affected a country or a group of people. Or if religion ever held any presidence and gained control in the selection process. Or governments for that matter.

there should be people who are allowed to allow genetic modifications to themselves

...

I don't think it works like that.
