A "freedom to privacy", to me, seems like a necessary corollary of a freedom to expression. Which I think we all value, here.

Would you say then that you take your freedom for granted?
Irrelevant. We live in a thoroughly irrational society, in some respects.
Quote from: D4C on December 28, 2014, 04:20:04 PMWould you say then that you take your freedom for granted?well, no, because i don't need privacy, eitherit's not like how i take my shoes for granted, because i wear them every single day, and if i had them taken away from me, i'd be like, "well, fuck, this sure fucking sucks"if i had my privacy taken away, it wouldn't change anything, because i was never remotely a private person at all
Quote from: Meta Cognition on December 28, 2014, 04:23:40 PMIrrelevant. We live in a thoroughly irrational society, in some respects. so i should hide from an irrational and intolerant authority and remain in lockstep instead of saying, "no, fuck you, i like this, and i'm going to bolster my right to like this"i'd get locked up or murderedbut i'd be a martyr.
But the concept of privacy is something you consider fundamental?
well, personally, i just don't value it at allit's just a fundamental... thing, i guess
That's exactly my point. The ideas of freedom of expression and, on the flip-side, freedom to privacy are essentially safe-guards against such magnitudes of irrationality so that you never have to martyr yourself.
Quote from: D4C on December 28, 2014, 04:27:45 PMBut the concept of privacy is something you consider fundamental?i don't believe i said thatQuotewell, personally, i just don't value it at allit's just a fundamental... thing, i guessi apologize for the poor wording there, but when i used the term "fundamental", i was referring to our fundamental, philosophical disagreement on this issue--because i foresee the inevitable impasse that we'll reach
So, you admit that your lack of perceived value in privacy is not the most common view? Are there any reasons why you might believe, or disbelieve, in that value?
I think Verbatim's disdain for privacy stems from a sort of contempt for people who aren't willing to own their actions

Verbatim and Meta should just get it over with already and fuck.

I should change my name to "Mediator", because God damn I'm good at it.
Well fuck, I completely agree with you in those terms.
