But I don't see why you would choose to be scrawny if you could be muscular with no effort whatsoever. Muscular = attractive, and being attractive = more success in literally every section of your life

Personally, I think guys look much better muscular. As do most people. And being attractive gives you social bonuses that can make you more successful.
