Not until we can get them to drive near-perfectly. I've seen footage of one (like a really early build) of those that they were testing out in an obstacle course. The car did well turning, braking, and accelerating, but it freaked out at some point and started running into things.

Hell yes, if all cars shared info, crashes would be rare, traffic jams could be reduced by cars going certain speeds and routes, fuel efficiency would increase. It'd be great

Fuck no, I can predict an idiot on the road, I can't predict a machine that's built to only do one thing, and has no ability to see, or is aware of what's around it. I don't even trust the machines in the factory I used to work in, and those fully automated fuckers with sensors that shut it down when there was anything NEAR a dangerous piece, and yet killed 2 people, and injured 50 during the 2 years I worked there.

I feel like all this self driving car tech is going to be met with some heavy resistance, and instead will be incorporated into drones and other military equipment if it already hasn't. While you can train a machine to do things perfectly, there's always the problem of "What if?" What if, and ultimately, when will it fail? And the factor that if the technology gained popularity, it would give another means of control that could be abused, and in over a generation or two, people that actually knew how to drive would disappear.

I'm all for making people's lives easier, but when the easy going starts subtracting from what a person can do on their own, then it's a problem. The only thing I'd ever really like to see an autonamous vehicle for is safety reasons. If you were losing control of your car or were drunk, something along those lines, then the vehicle would take control. But never, never in daily usage.

Google's driving cars DO see what's around them. They see everything, no blind spots, they're essentially the perfect driver.

Those new Infinities with active lane assist are pretty close to self-driving. Cruise control + lane assist = relax.

I'd love a self-driving car. I'd think having them would cut down on accidents/ Unfortunately, until a large majority of cars on the road are autonomous, we wont see much decrease in collisions.
