While it has its ups and downs, all it comes down to is the fact that people don't use a little moderation and self control over how much time they spend on it, or how much they tend to ignore often important things.

A little moderation and not such a dependency on it whenever you get stuck on something goes a long way.

Yes, I am one person. But the "wealth of information" is supplying for a wealth of interests and hobbies. I'll take what information I will from it, which can be ANYTHING, regardless of what my interests are. A person who is, say, an artist  will take something different. The vast pool of information is catering to both, even though I have no interest in his shit and he has no interest in mine.

The only thing I value the Internet for is the social aspect. All the friends that I have. They would be the hardest to say goodbye to. Anything else, I just don't care. Sorry.

And hell, even if I did want no information from the internet, I'm not a selfish prick who would try to justify why the internet shouldn't be shut down based on what I personally want.
The answer to your question, hypothetically would have been "Because, even though I as an individual don't make much use of it, there are millions of others across the world who gain huge benefit from it in one way or another".

I could easily live without the internet, I'd just be a little more bored in my spare time. One thing I do like about the internet is the media. If you didn't have the internet where would you get your news??
LOL the television? The Television only give us what they want us to know. We have the freedom of information sort of, we aren't confined to reading books we can only find in shops and libraries. We can access all sorts information from many different places from many different people.

Another reason is it's made life generally a lot more convenient.
