Children like animals, there are many kids movies about animals and animal toys and zoos, when children see animal they want to know more and they have interest. But they too young to know about vertebrae and cartilage of the animals and would not understand the organs. So instead we teach them animal sound because kid like funny sounds they do not hear often because it is of interest to them also because they learn new fun sound.

Apparently the more complex your vocabulary when talking to children, the more linguistically developed they'll turn out to be.
