No, obviously not. To the point where you lift to increase your muscle mass (which is what lifting is PRIMARILY used for) doesn't matter.

I felt lazy and had a gut - which made me feel unhappy.
Ever since I started running and regularly exercising I feel much better about myself and hence actually happy. So if you are happy the way you are - awesome! If you are not happy about your body, get out there and change it.

I lift for myself. I lift so that I can look good naked, and I don't intend to ever get into sexy times.

If you lift to look good, without lifting, you don't look good. You are not okay with your base level of attractiveness. Which makes you insecure.
I'm insecure about not having the body of a greek god, because I don't have the body of a greek god.

To look good? Of course, my body wans't born hot, it needs muscles in the right place to look hot.

being able to bench press 240 isn't going to affect your ability to fight off a cold in any way that simply eating well won't -- check

I couldn't care less about being healthy as long as I'm not obese or so out of shape that I can't run up some stairs without gasping for breath.

There's really no need to be in the gym everyday pushing your body to its limits if you aren't an athlete. You're wasting time. Put that effort into something that can get you real results that will improve your life.

That's pretty much my stance. As long as I can walk to where I need to go, I don't really care much beyond that.
