why do most of you hate the military so much?

I definitely respect the individual soldiers who put their lives on the line, believing that they're doing it for a good cause. The military as an institution, though, is a corrupt branch that only cares about money and influence.

i respect the individual's choice to "fight for our freedoms." that takes a steel pair of nuts. but, i wont blindly worship them as heroes. they arent heroes by virtue of their profession. killing is hardly a heroic action.. if it were, that's setting the bar pretty fucking low for heroism, and diluting the meaning.

they're just people like you and me. they deserve no more and no less respect.

Someone who joins for the college tuition and uniform...isn't. And I have no reason to show them even the slightest respect.

I respect individual soldiers for doing that, but the way it is used is what I don't like

So then after WW2 what threats were they protecting us from? Hell even before WW2 they weren't fighting that many wars to protect us.There's the war against those pirates and there's WW1 which the Germans asked the Mexicans to attack us. Other than that the rest were just pointless wars. Now a days they're just hired thugs. Killing some guy in the Middle East isn't protecting me from anything.
