IMO, Origins was utterly outstanding on a storytelling and roleplaying level. The combat was meh, though. All the games past that, as you said, were shit.

inquisition is one of my favorite games of all time. The crafting system is near perfect, the world is expansive and beautiful, the combat is fun...
