Why are guns so expensive?

For example my AK I picked up for $650 which there's also the tax. Why is something that's just metal and wood cost more than a PS4 which has more complex components which most likely cost more?

I mean, I can understand why AR's are more expensive, because you have to pay a little extra for the special concentrated freedom throwing device because freedom isn't free, but like, you can make an AK from a shovel.

Keep in mind the dealer has to make money too. They probably bought the gun for around 500$ and sold it to him for a little more so they could make a profit.

People like to price gouge also. Even in retail stores, I've seen them go no more than $599. I think he should of bought one online and had it shipped to a local FFL holder; would of saved him money
