Only been working at BK like 2 months but on my latest stub it says my pay is $9.10 an hour instead of the $9.00 I started with

That means I got a raise and I'm a good sub employee!

You spend time to earn 9$ per hour when instead you could play chess

>Ask my Duty Manager (Boss's boss) if I can be a ranger
>He lets me get trained
>Get paid $11 an hour instead of $10 while doing it
>Have a 9-5:30 last Sunday
>DM asks me if I wanna extend
>Sure since it would be OT
>Asks me to watch the back of the restaurants for any guests getting dropped off by taxis
>No one shows up
>He literally paid me $16.50 an hour for three and a half hours to sit in a cart and stare off into space
>"Thanks for extending Ian! Meant a lot to me even if no one showed up!"

Not to mention the entire first eight hours were hilariously crazy. Best day of work ever.

there's also no shortage of hardworking people who died never having amounted to anything, unless "amounting to anything" isn't your idea of hard work paid off

how about the military, does that ever pay off for the average person

That's not what I'm talking about. "Hard work" is work done well of your own volition, through personal discipline.

there's also no shortage of hardworking people who died never having amounted to anything, unless "amounting to anything" isn't your idea of hard work paid off

how about the military, does that ever pay off for the average person

The pay-off is discipline and self-worth.

The pay-off is discipline and self-worth.
the payoff is also exhaustion, misery, and ageโ€”oftentimes in greater amounts

so, assuming you get enough of those two things to overpower the three negative things (and i'm only scraping the surface), and assuming you even value those two things to begin with, i guess under the most generous definitions possible, you could look under a magnifying glass and find trace amounts of you possibly being right if i give you that much leverage

"i died tired, miserable, and existentially unfulfilled, but at least i had discipline"

This is something verbatim can never understand in his current mindset, there's no use arguing. He has thoroughly convinced himself that life is unfair but should be fair, otherwise life doesn't deserve to exist. Until he moves on from this childish idea that he (or anybody else) is entitled to anything, there's no benefit to discussing anything seriously with him.
it's a childish idea even though very few children would agree with me and most children would agree with you

but yeah you're right life should be unfair

How do you figure? Exhaustion? Because your body adapts over time. Any job you have now is nothing compared to hunting and gathering so your body has a long way to go before it could be considered "exhausted." Maybe you mean mental exhaustion, in which case you need to work off the cortisol released in your body through exercise or a proper diet. Luckily you're pretty close to the ideal diet, anyway.
Misery? Humans are wired to feel good after completing something that needs to be done especially if you don't want to do it. Like a shift at work. This is how I combated my depression earlier on. And age comes for everyone, and can also be combated with a proper diet.

nobody hates doing work more than i do, because i enjoy hating work, and i will die on that hill

i would prefer to enjoy work, but i can't force myself to do that, and even if i could, i wouldn't, because forcing yourself to enjoy things that you viscerally do not sounds completely insane to me

you just described the exact opposite of how reality works, especially for me

i finish something i've been working on and the next thing i want to do is kill myself

i feel nothing but sheer emptiness

That's fine if you're like that but it's a bit silly to assume that's how it works for everyone, and furthermore, that's how it should work for everyone.

you're the one who said "hard work ALWAYS pays off"

when it clearly, clearly doesn't

you can't fuck around with words like "always" or "never" when it comes to human behavior, because there's always going to be people like me out there

Hard work doesn't make a person inherently miserable. There are many people that are miserable when they aren't working hard.

just the biggest projects

you get yourself into the groove of chipping away at this big passion project you've had, and when you finally finish it, there's this feeling of "what the fuck do i even do now" combined with "why the fuck did i spend so much time and effort on this"

it's never a good feeling

i'm really not sure where you're getting that from my post

all i did was express the very real possibility that working hard has its adverse effectsโ€”you may be some fucking weirdo who actually likes doing work or some shit, but not everybody is you

that's all i'm saying

Yeah fair enough, but I pretty regularly talk in generalisations and within the context of this thread I didn't think too much of it.

none whatsoever, mostly because nothing i do is worth pride and i've never actually "accomplished" anything

i have to convince myself that the things i do for fun isn't just a waste of time, when they really are

there's a very small fraction of worthwhile people who do worthwhile things on this planet, and i'm not one of themโ€”if i wanted to be one of them, i would have to commit to doing all sorts of hard work that i'm not willing to do, because i never asked to be here, and i don't LIKE it here, so i shouldn't be obliged to do any work whatsoever

but at the same time, i'm not gonna sit here and pretend as though that doesn't upset me, because i'm allowed to be upset by that
