Hopefully I'll be out of California because of how expensive it is to live here.
As far as a job, I don't have very high aspirations for a career. As long as the job is mostly stress free.

If you went about it the right way it's completely viable to make it as a writer, if that's what you're passionate.  You just gotta keep trying.  Steven Kings first novel got rejected 30 times,  he was about to give up and threw it away but his wife got it out of the trash and told him to not give up.  Look at what famous writers have did/do leading up to getting published and look for principles you can follow.   I'd look into marketing too, sense the best written book won't sell if no one knows about or it's marketed so poorly no one buys it.
