it's sort of like how on discord you're assigned a number that you can't change (unless you pay for nitro or whatever)

but yeah people use nicknames and stuff like that but i always feel a little juvenile not using a person's real name

At first I'd say her actual name makes the most sense. If a nickname that you use really frequently emerges and you feel like doing so then I don't see an issue.

For instance, in my steam friend list next to the username Snake there is a (Drake), which hasn't developed, but it makes sense. An example of something that has developed is Banjo (VatoLoco).
