So I went to Mr. Brand's house today.

Mr. Brand was one of the founding fathers of Glendale California, which is were I was born and raised. I still live here. Today I decided to go on an adventure right after school and dive into North Glendale, the nicest area in the entire city. It's a very rich neighborhood. Lots of nice houses too. If it wasn't for Mr Brand, the part that I live in Glendale now would have still been called Tropico.

The house is now a library, and most of the property is now a park. Very nice area btw. I can see why he decided to build his house here in 1904. This was here before Glendale was established as a city in 1906. His house was the first thing here, the rest of the land was empty. Grass and trees everywhere, now it's an entire city with all sorts of property.

Anyway, here are some pictures I took today. I'll post them in spoiler tags since some people have computers from the 90s apparently.

Mr. Brand's House, Now known as the Brand Public Library

And that was my visit at Mr Brand's property. I could have gone to the library aka his house and take pictures inside, but my phone died. I also could have gone behind his house a little bit higher to actually visit Mr. and Mrs Brand at their grave, but it was too hot today. Yeah, they're buried right behind the house uphill right next to Brand's brother-in-law, Nathaniel Dryden.

Actually, I'll share that with you too. I didn't take this photo, but I have visited the grave before.

....In the time I made this thread, I just realized that today is his birthday. Mother of god.......

Anyway, that's some city history for ya from where I live.

What do you guys think?

Here are some interesting reads about it btw:

Update: Wow. I find out something new everyday about these people. Has anyone here ever heard of Claire Dodd?

Spoiler

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claire_Dodd

I'll be honest, I have not. However, she's buried with the Brands in that private cemetery in an unmarked grave.

I don't know if that was her wish or not, but I'd be pissed if that happened to me. Apparently she married Mr Brand's nephew hence she's buried there? I dunno.

Bad news. The city owns the Doctor's house. I believe this is where Dr Toll and Eleanor J Toll lived actually. I'll have to research it again.

But yeah, it's public. It was closed today. It's only open on tour on Sunday's 2-4PM. I believe the cost for it is free, but I could be wrong. there isn't any admission to visit this place, but it does have it's hours.

So if you ever visit Glendale California and you want to check this place out, I'll send you the directions. My own custom directions actually. I know an easier way to get there, if on foot, but chances are you'd drive there anyway. I took the bus and went on foot.

I don't think it's haunted sadly. It's just preserved history really, and yes. I was born and raised here. I still live here.

I have been living in Glendale California since birth. 22 years of my life and I never really went anywhere else.

Anyway, I think I was wrong. This isn't the Toll house like I thought it was. The Toll house is the like hardest thing to find in this place, and I've looked every corner, I know where everything is. Unless it got torn down there is no way I can't find it. This city is too small for me.

Anyway, some information about The Doctor House: http://www.glendaleca.gov/government/departments/community-services-parks/parks-facilities-historic-sites/brand-park/doctor-s-house-museum-gazebo

I know the feeling.
I lived in the same house for 22 years and was practically born in my house.
It was a country ranch house with a lot of pastures. There used to be horse farms in the property that backs up to my parent's back yard.

Only difference is that I watched the area boom and over populate.
Small town life was nice.

I wish I lived in a small town. I was born in Glendale in 1992, my family and I lived in different apartments here before, but I don't remember most of them, aside from 2, but in 1998, we settled for the one we are in now. Haven't moved ever since. This apartment building that I'm living in was build in 1987. That's nothing impressive.

This city went from having a whole bunch of land to explore in the early 1900s to too much shit everywhere with buildings and whatnot in the late 60s to present day.

I don't know why I'm fascinated with this place's history so much. This place right now when it comes to other things is rather dull and boring. Maybe I just have that sense of wonder and exploration to wonder what it was like for people that lived in the US a hundred years ago. I don't know.

Me too. I even saw a baby turtle in it, but it disappeared when I tried getting a picture of it.

umm, what exactly did he do for Glendale?

He's one of the people that developed by buying land and property. He even had railroads built. And (they don't exist anymore now here) trolleys.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Coombs_Brand

Let's just say if it wasn't for him, Glendale wouldn't be what it is today for sure. For all I know I would be living in Tropico California, which for all I know would have been a real shit hole now if things didn't turn out the way they did. Brand bought off the land from whoever owned this region and brought business to the table clearly.

And if he wasn't there, who knows how this place would have been developed, or would it even have been?

It's history. I don't really expect it to be important to anyone here because they don't live here, but since I've grown up and lived here all my life, it's important to me.

The land here was amazing:
