You can't seriously expect me to believe that 97.6% of Americans believe in god.

I don't really care what you buy into. That sauce doesn't differentiate between agnostic and atheist, so it is an irrelevant statistic.
All these mental gymnastics
you're the one performing mental gymnastics here bub.
Not at all. The initial argument here was that atheism is some borderline belief that only exists on the Internet. That's obviously false.
the statistics disagree with you. ive already explained that you are misinterpreting the data. just in case you missed it, ill link this again.

2.4% in america identify as atheist as of 2012 according to this particular poll. the ratio of those who arent affiliated with a religion is 19.6% in 2012 but do not conflate that with atheism.
http://www.pewforum.org/files/2012/10/NonesOnTheRise-full.pdf
Pew Research in 2014 says 3.1%. Regardless, strict athiesm in the US is still a large minority.

Not necessarily. A good number of people (22.8%, Pew 2014) are unaffiliated with any specific religion, but may or may not believe in some sort of higher power to any degree.

Just because you have all of these idiots who put down "I don't believe in God, but I don't identify as an atheist". It skews the poll results. If you don't believe in god, you're an atheist. It doesn't fucking matter what you "identify" as.

once again i must stress that religious non-affiliation does not automatically mean that they dont believe in god.

I was more pointing out that the number may have grown since then, but that however much it's changed, numerous studies still show it as a strict minority.

But that has nothing to do with anything, because when I say "Atheism is popular in communities like these", I'm very clearly talking about a different philosophy than "Yeah, I don't believe God exists but I'm not sure."

No, but it certainly can, and the whole atheist in everything but name shit happens so much. It's because the vocal atheists have ruined the word for everyone, so people do the whole "atheism is a religion, too" line and just pretend that they're "nonreligious". Newsflash: if you're not a theist, you're an atheist. That's literally what the word means.

this is becoming frustrating. you arent thinking clearly and your logic is suffering because of it. you're inserting your own feelings into an argument about empirical data and missing the point.

Do you disagree with the fact that if you're not a theist, you're an atheist? It's in the definition of the word. Just tell me whether or not you agree with that so I can know whether or not to waste anymore time ITT.

are you retarded? of course i know the difference between theism and atheism. you're assuming that those who dont affiliate with a particular religion are not theists. you do not have to belong to a religion to be a theist.

and id suggest you take a few steps back. ive been civil thus far but you're beginning to act like an ignorant troglodyte and if this continues i will no longer humor you.

To clarify, are you intending this to refute Ganon's initial statement? If so, that would entirely depend on whether he intended "athiest" literally or by self-titling. If the former, it's a minority at roughly 20% of the US; if the latter, it's a minority of roughly 3-7%.

His estimate was in the ballpark, surprisingly.

there's also deists

iirc, "theists" are people who believe in an established religion that is recognized by the government and shit
whereas deists just believe in some nondescript god

theism is just a belief in a deity at the most fundamental level. deism is a form of theism.
