I suffered through football practices in order to get better.I suffered through school in order to get and education.I suffer through work in order to provide for my family.
Quote from: PSU on July 05, 2015, 11:40:27 AMI suffered through football practices in order to get better.I suffered through school in order to get and education.I suffer through work in order to provide for my family.NONE of this is suffering. None of it.Losing your limbs is suffering.Crippling illnesses are suffering.Depression is suffering.Physical pain, physical anguish is suffering.Torture is suffering.
Football practice = physical pain though.
Quote from: TBlocks on July 05, 2015, 12:17:10 PMFootball practice = physical pain though.Of which you have no one but yourself to blame for, since you're the one who signed up. I don't really have much sympathy for you if you're an injured football player. That's what you signed up for, is to get injured, essentially.
Oh so now you are the sole decider on what is suffering and what isn't. Ok kid

I'm 100% sure those experiences (while tragic) helped them grow as a person. There is always something positive to take out of something negative that happens.
So what verby, you just never look to improve yourself if there is any kind of suffering or difficultly involved?

Quote from: PSU on July 05, 2015, 12:24:48 PMSo what verby, you just never look to improve yourself if there is any kind of suffering or difficultly involved? No, I do. But the fact that I have to is retarded. And I hate it. And you should, too.
Also what of the masochists who get pleasure from suffering?
Yes growing as a person is literally one of the points of living...
Why would I hate it? Anything that's easy isn't worth doing.
But we don't hate it because that's life.

Punch a masochist in the face--he's not gonna appreciate it. That's not what a masochist is. With BDSM, consent is involved, and that's a big part of the process.
Quote from: TBlocks on July 05, 2015, 12:30:48 PMBut we don't hate it because that's life. Then I hate life (and everyone else should, too). The reason I don't kill myself is because1. Euthanasia is illegal2. I can't be an advocate for anything that I believe in if I'm dead
All I'm saying is that some people get pleasure out of suffering and to eradicate suffering would be to eradicate one of their pleasures.

It's still your own choice. One of the key things about suffering is that you're not technically supposed to be imposed upon you.Don't like football practice? Stop playing football. It's not suffering.
No ones asking you to kill yourself.
Quote from: TBlocks on July 05, 2015, 12:34:30 PMNext time I see you remind me to lend you "Better to have never been" by David Benatar. It explains some of the stuff Verb's trying to get across. The logic is flawless. The viewpoint is infallible if you believe in any kind of contemporary morality (which, I'm fairly sure you do). It just might be that Verb isn't explaining it all that well to you.
