what does it mean when you keep having dark thoughts?

I regularly picture myself getting castrated or I'll be walking outside and there'll be a spike fence so I picture myself bashing my head or eye on it. It's weird I want it to stop. This is just to name a few, it happens with all hazardous items. I saw an electric saw the other day and I thought to myself what it would be like to put the saw through my knee.

i actually talked to someone (not a therapist) about something like this. They said it was regret or just self punishment for something, but idrk.

I was really depressed last time something like this happened to me.

2300 hours on state route 895 north of Port Clinton. I'm within the realm of a 65mph average on a 55 limited mountain road. There's that river bed fifty feet below to my right opposite the rock face that I approach on my way north. I could just not turn.

It's kinda unsettling how often things like that come to mind at night, so I just start singing whatever to keep my mind from running wild as I auto-pilot the road.

These sort of dark thoughts tend to go hand in hand with depression <.<
A couple of other things too, but they are a bit less common/more obvious with other symptoms (Think OCD/Schizophrenia*)

From personal experience, this happened to me before I ended up depressed. Then it happened again during it, now with the medication/counselling/therapy it's gone.

It can also be tied into high levels of stress, which is a slightly more benign cause <.<

If it's happening constantly and intrusively, then I would recommend going to see someone about it. I wouldn't worry about it meaning something really dire, it's not an uncommon problem/symptom. It's if it becomes a significant cause of distress/disruption that in itself it needs addressing. It is usually the result of another root cause though >.>

Oh and PTSD can also cause it, but that's the slightly less common/trauma specific explanation <.<
