What possible motivation do you have to play with spears and shields only?

Duh.If they were the only way to play the game, you wouldn't be able to play the game any other way, but clearly that's untrue.
And if you think that's fun, you're right, but you can maximize the amount of fun by playing with no shield

Meshes well with the whole Matrix vibe.that's horribledoes it at least warn youSpoilerThe game tells you to stop fucking around and treating it like a toy for a few missions preceding it, interspersed with messages telling you that it has total control over you. It tells you to run; if you don't, you can't proceed. It tells you to die; if you don't let yourself get shot, you can't move forward. It tells you that it can decide where you leave or not, and disables the escape key (that leaving is bound to). After that, it makes you (the character, because you don't actually type your messages) promise to leave the game alone and forces you to log off.

You could always unplug the computer/console too, but the point is that it removes to ability to quit out as a statement.
Gotta agree with birb, not being able to pause is just dumb.
