His eyebrows sparkling, his white beard hangs down to his chest. The thatched mats, spread outside his chise, spread softly, his splendid attos. He polishes, cross-legged, his makiri, with his eyes completely absorbed.

He is Ainu.

The god of Ainu Mosir, Ae-Oine Kamuy, descendant of Okiku-Rumi, He perishes, a living corpse. The summers day, the white sunlight, unabrushed, ends simply through his breath alone.

also that best part of Ron Swanson is that Nick Offerman is almost the exact opposite as him politically

it helps him more perfectly portray the stereotypical libertarian

a good actor can play an evil character in a really charismatic way

charismatic means you like their character while simultaneously rooting against them because you know they're bad

basic basic basic basic shit

That's what I'm saying - Noah Cross is no Frank Underwood. He has no charisma, and is literally impossible to like in every scene he's in. You never sympathize with him or understand his delusional, probably made-up worldview. He's pretty much the embodiment of evil, but was intentionally written that way, obviously (as he's a villain). All I'm saying is that he's probably the most unlikable character in film/TV history

Quote
I thought your performance at The Webbys earlier this year was hilarious. A few months later, are you feeling any differently about the election, or about Trump and Hillary, now that a lot has changed since then?

I feel like it's fascinating and terrifying and kind of depressing that the American public is feeling this. You know, we have nobody to blame but ourselves for this election, and I think it's just fascinating. I mean, I'm not a great political brain, but I definitely have a pretty simple take on politics that involves common decency. When it gets into trade policy and foreign policy, I quickly end up in the weeds where I find it hard to follow. It's usually easy for me to vote because one party usually offends me by being indecent. And that usually has to do with taking away the rights of some group. That's where my gut begins with politics—it has to do with simple matters and neighborliness. And so seeing what's going on is just astonishing. I'm always amazed in elections when the only flaws that can be pointed out about a candidate are that they have been a politician. You know—"Well they said this in '93, and then they said this other thing in 2005." Yes, that's called politics. The world is very complicated and so are human beings, so I'm not surprised. But then, on the other hand, [there's a] candidate that's only, in my way of thinking, held such an unsavory job as casino owner. Not only that, but a failed casino—a spectacularly failed one. On one hand, I understand the dissatisfaction that has led to his selection. But, on the other hand, I have to say, if you're going to make a statement with your dissatisfaction, you really should've found a better representative of your desires. But I'm just going to try and continue to promote good manners wherever I can.
-Esquire interview with Nick Offerman

Ron Swanson is the result of a character created for the show, enhanced by the exaggerated hobbies and traits of Nick Offerman.

i mean i've never seen him in action so i guess i can't have any idea, but

i've seen movies with some extremely morally repugnant characters in them, but i still like them, because their charisma is not based in the character's personality or actions, but with the actor's own ability to play the role so well

take bruno ganz's performance as hitler in the movie der untergang, for example

when i say unlikable, i'm talking about characters that fail to move the audience in any intended way—characters who aren't funny when they're supposed to be funny, and suchlike

So what you're saying is that you watch films and tv literally wrong

"Wrong" in the sense that the goal of any story - to be so invested in it, you can't separate it from the truth - is being consciously violated. For the purpose of...what? Indulging in the "behind the scenes" unnecessary? If an actor's motivations or life are being thought of while you're watching something, the entire point of the medium has failed.

Maybe, but that's not something you recognize when you view the film. There are no actors. Harrison Ford isn't in a studio running from a prop, Indiana Jones is desperately sprinting away from a giant boulder that's about to crush him. The actor doesn't exist, and neither do any meta aspects like film quality or writing mechanics. It might be enjoyable to list off the tropes you can see, but it detracts from the nature of a story itself, not to mention viewing pleasure.

shockingly enough I don't think you understood what I said
