Due to the way you've gone about serious criteria, I feel that a lot of people who post something and want a genuine discussion will probably get their stuff buried under shitposts or just get 'K.' for answers or something, if I user my own examples, it's like when I post my writing stuff and it just goes onto the second page in about ten minutes becase of spam. I guess having a semi-serious board would be cool, where proper discussion can go but the flood stays as it's shit[pos]ty self.

Or if anarchy were permanent, then have the flood as that genuine discussion board and have anarchy as the spam shit board like it is now.

Or we could just allow all serious discussion in serious regardless of the content. Which would seem like an easier and more logical solution.

All this new system will result in is more people complaining about shitposts burrying and derailing their threads in flood. Then the complainers will move on to saying we need to be more strict on shitposting (as they are in this thread).

This is just a wider thing, seeing as I think there's a few other issues.

I think Serious shouldn't be limited to certain topics, just follow by it's title. You want an actual, serious discussion about science, life, maths, technology (including computer or part recommendations), and everything else currently in serious, than you ask or discuss it there. e.g. You wanted a solution for some computer error and thought someone here could help, you could ask it there and not expect "try xbox.com" as an answer.

Flood can keep it's shitposting that way as if you want a "real" thread on a topic, you can do it on Serious, while anyone and everyone can ask random questions or discuss interesting stuff on Flood if they don't care if it gets serious talk or just meme text, one word answers, (smallish) arguements or >implying.

Personally I think the shitposting is excessive, but due to the nature of this place (it's small size and general behavior of us lot), if you got rid of it there would be literally fuck all to talk about in Flood other than the occasional what-if scenario or "What/How/Where X are you/do you have" threads.

Gaming, Septagon and News are the only boards that are fine and haven't needed much fiddling with.

Moderating needs to be objective and consistent as possible and relying on subjective tactics is a major contributor to a large portion of the type of 'staff drama' that seems to circulate around here all too often.

I don't see why it can't go in serious if its a genuinely serious discussion. (not that I know how you would have a serious discussion about anime.....art style and voice acting maybe?) We can post about politics in a nonserious manner here after all.

Nuka had a DA:I thread in Serious since it was about a trans character. Seemed to work just fine. I probably would have preferred it in Gaming, but I'm sure the discussion was helped by the Serious rules.

Hmm you make a good point I would have thought mods would use their own discretion when deciding whether a thread was bullshit or not. But I guess that's not the best route keeping the community happy. However the community could do with a kick up the arse.

I try to be reasonably discrete when moderating, but that will never stop people from complaining. Not having a specific target to direct their hate towards just means they'll direct it towards the staff as a whole. The drama still has a foothold and will find a way to manifest itself no matter the target.

You have to eliminate the foothold, you see. We as staff can't give drama a foundation to run rampant by the way we conduct ourselves and our policy. At least, that is what we need to strive for. It's not the easiest thing to accomplish, of course.

Leave flood alone, allow shot posting to an extent and don't allow all the mean stuff as per usual

Make serious serious discussion about anything. An example above is getting serious answers about building a PC and not getting "try Xbox.com"

Change gaming to entertainment. This is a board of anime, games, movies, sports and stuff.

I dont really care what the page is filled with but something with discussion value is appreciated.
