What do I want to look for in headphones?

Wait a fucking minute, I don't even need headphones. Ear phones; sure for those occasions when I need to isolate sound, but otherwise I've no use for them.

I should just buy some ear phones for just above dirt price.

Sennheiser for value and Bose for quality. Both are generally good brands.
