I tip when somebody deserves a tip. When somebody really puts forth an effort, they deserve a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, that shit's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job. Working at McDonald's is a tough job, but you don't feel the need to tip them. They're serving you food, you should tip them. But no, society says tip these guys over here, but not those guys over there. That's bullshit.

That's not true at all. If everyone stopped putting up with this obligatory tipping thing, the servers would get shit wages and inevitably quit in favor of a job that pays well. The restaurant would then either adapt or die.

But that's not going to happen, so I'll just keep on paying the bill and nothing else extra all by my lonesome.

anyway, businesses can get away with this because it lowers their labor costs, which in turn allows them to lower the price of their food, creating more overall revenue. it sucks and i really do hate how a server's wage is dependent on such unpredictable factors but, until we make something change, i don't see it happening. it's too ingrained into our culture.
