It's been determined that the moderators here have been too lax with our enforcement of the NSFW avatar rule. However because it was our moderation that was not in keeping with the spirit of that rule verb won't be seeing any kind of negative repercussions for the use of that avatar.

Going forward I think the best rule of thumb is to make your avatar suitable for what is generally accepted to be ok to show to children. So in other words keep your avatars PG, and that's a modern PG, not a Temple of Doom PG.
