He had nothing wrong yesterday. He was perfectly fine.
Then my mom wakes me up at 6 this morning saying Bandit is paralyzed in one of his front paws.
I had to leave him in the house alone to go to school, and literally sped the entire way home to see him after class ended.

While I got a shower and got ready for school, he crawled ALL THE WAY across the house, WHILE PARALYZED, just to be outside the bathroom door. Just so he could be near me


His paralysis had spread and he couldn't use either front paw anymore.

So we set an appointment with the vet, gave him a bath to get rid of all the fleas, then I picked him up and carried him like a baby through the backyard one last time.

We tried to see if there was hope of helping him, but nothing.

When they gave him the anesthetic to put him to sleep, I held him in my arms the whole time, promising he'd just be taking a nap. The last thing he ever saw, was his mom and big brother. He went to sleep with a big grin on his face, and he never did that before.

I'm destroyed right now. He was my little buddy for 11 years, and in only 12 hours I lost him.

Just remember that you made his life as happy as he made yours.

Im sorry for your loss. Its never easy losing a pet.

Shit man, I'm sorry. I just put down one of my dogs a few weeks ago. I know how difficult it can be, but I think you made the right choice. You did what you could for him, and comforted him in his time of need. That would have been no way for a dog to live.

I'm sure you gave him a good life. Take comfort in knowing his life was better for having you in it, and your life, him.

Why did you have to put him down if he was only paralyzed in his front paws?

It was spreading, one of his back feet was being affected by the time e made it to the vet.
And all tests would have done, was show what caused it. But it wouldn't have fixed it.

I personally would have spent a fortune to keep Bandit alive, but my mom would be the one paying. And she saw he wouldn't have good quality of life. He'd be miserable.

A dog wants to run, jump, play, eat, be able to use the bathroom on its own........not be completely immobile, can't walk or use the bathroom or anything.

He would have suffered immensely.

 

Im sorry to hear that. I lost my dog Beowulf a few years ago to the heat but I think it was a spider. I know how it feels to lose not a dog but a brother.
Ill crave his name on a piece of wood in my back yard for him.

Yep, happened to me this past April. Had my dog for 14 years. Had to put her down because she had cancer really bad and wasn't eating or drinking those final days. Still tough. But shes in a better place and healthy once again.

Damn, I feel empathy for you.

I had lost a puppy to a eastern diamondback rattlesnake. The first one that my father hadn't seen for a very long time. And he watched him die.
