I don't know about you, but if a friend or whoever of mine told me they were going to pretend to hang themselves to see what it was like I'd say: "no, don't do that, you imbecile", and would taken every possible effort to stop them.
It's not like he needed the practice killing himself either, he got it right the first time.

Poor kid. This could have been easily avoided. It must have been horrible to find him like that, and hours after his GSCE results, damn. His life was only just beginning.
