Thief in your house

You hear a noise in the middle of the night. After further investigation you find a thief in your house. After a long chase you catch him only to find he was only steeling food and soap.

What would you do?

Me: Personally if I only found soap and food on him I would let him go. He obviously just trying to survive or support someone.

I'd probably take him to a mcdonalds or something. After rummaging around in my couch cushions while explaining to said fellow that I'm not exactly the wealthiest.

Dude was coming into my home to rummage through the few bits of food I have and for soap. He could've done a lot worse. This would be somebody desperate enough to break into a home, respectful enough not to take anything else of real meaning, and maybe not exactly the brightest.

To me that doesn't warrent notifying the police. That warrents showing them a little bit of compassion and maybe pointing them in the right direction.

Plus, I'd be the second person here to kill him, as, after all, Mcdonalds is horrendously bad. I'd be killing him softly.

I do agree with you somewhat. He had the option to steel what ever he wanted and yet he goes for food and soap. He obviously has some sense of morals and isn't looking for a quick buck.
