Why is Trump president? What birthed the alt-right movement?

It's the left not understanding that tolerance is the goal not acceptance.

I am a liberal. Let's be clear about that up front. But I realize where my fellow snowflakes have strayed from the goal.

People can't be expected to do more than tolerate what they personally find offensive. To think they should accept things they were taught were wrong is unreasonable. They should be expected to tolerate things. They don't have to agree.

Unfortunately the left bought into the myopic ideal of you're with us or against us. This is unsustainable thought. Moreover, there are things the left must tolerate about the right.

Religion is a thing. Racism is a thing. Homophobia is a thing. A million other issues are things. To shame everyone who doesn't support your cause is amalgam to creating a thought police and thoughts that should be policed.

The left is as (or more) guilty of discrimination than the right.

The US is a big diverse country. No one could expect everyone to agree on everything. The only hope is for us to find a middle ground. Or at least the least offensive path for everyone. Indifference and intolerance are the banes of our society. It's time we recognize that.

Discrimination, yes.  Discrimination is an act. Forcing acceptance is controlling thought. Can someone discriminate? No. But you can't force acceptance. You aren't owed anyone's love.
