I'm reasonably sure that there's some web application (maybe Webcake if you use firefox?) that monitors your activity and selectively advertises to you bases on what it can gather of your personal interests. Almost every ad I get is at least semi-relevant to me in terms of location and/or interest.

I'm not sure exactly how it works.

Yeah most of the time there's a blank box where the ads "should" be for me. I rarely see the ads. This one though
