The framework of 10 Cloverfield Lane was originally shot as a psychological indie horror film titled "The Cellar" with a budget of about $5 million (the original Cloverfield film cost about $25 million just for comparison). Paramount picked up on it and slapped the Cloverfield name on in what can only be described as a genius business move designed to save a dying indie film from completely bombing at the box office.
To say the least, I was severely disappointed. The film had almost zero resemblance to the original, and watching 2 hours worth of scenes set in a basement and then about 10 minutes of Syfy tier CGI action at the end wasn't worth it.
Did anyone else watch Cloverfield? Your thoughts?
