I don't understand why these were made before Revenge of the Sith and the other prequels. Luke was born after Anakin became Darth Vader, but the original trilogy was made before them. Or was Revenge of the Sith made afterwards, for a backstory, showing where Luke came from and when he was born. i dunno im confused why this has been done

The OG came before the Prequels because
A) ANH is entirely standalone, so if it flopped, it wouldn't be an unfinished story
B) The OG trilogy was the most exciting part (according to Lucas) of the story that Lucas had planned out

ANH wasn't even called ANH to begin with. It was just called Star Wars, until Lucas went back and numbered it, and subtitled it as ANH.
